Flying Away to Beautiful Cat Cay

Dear Friends,

This week you’ll find me on the lush tropical Island of Cat Cay, Bahamas, participating in the Visiting Physician Program, holding book events for my book, Cruise Ship Crime: A Medical Murder Mystery and snorkeling off Kitten Cay.

ABOUT CAT CAY

Legend has it that the name “Cat Cay” came from pirates who thought the island was shaped like the cat line of a sailing vessel. Cat Cay is a coral strand with gleaming white beaches, washed by the silver crested sapphire waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The island, two and a quarter miles across and a half mile wide is located on the western edge of the four-meter-deep Bahamas Bank where anglers go for marlin, bluefin tuna, wahoo, and other big game fish. Miami is located a short 50 miles west and Bimini Island lies 8 miles to the north.

Cat Cay Yacht Club is more than just a private club, it’s a close-knit community of like-minded families from all over the United States and abroad. At peak times of the year the island buzzes with lively parties, activities, and social gatherings at private homes. At other times Cat Cay lapses into a blissful quiescence perfect for beachcombers or hammock-bound readers.

ABOUT THE CAT CAY MEDICAL CLINIC

One of many unique amenities of the Cat Cay Yacht Club is the operation of a fully functional and staffed medical clinic and it’s been my pleasure to annually volunteer my services.

The Clinic is staffed by volunteer emergency physicians from the US and Canada. The clinic is equipped to handle most emergencies and illnesses that may occur. Emergency air evacuation service is available and coordinated through the Island Doctor. ABOUT MY BOOK

In Cruise Ship Crime: A Medical Murder Mystery, Dr. Alan Mayhew is a retired cruise ship doctor who’s about to go on—a cruise! He’s grieving the loss of his wife, and his family feels a cruise is just what he needs to move on—to take his mind off of missing her. Once on board, he meets some of the eclectic folks that make up the passengers and the crew including Tiffany, the beautiful cruise ship director. With her, Dr. Mayhew helps solve a series of on board crimes, including a murder. Dr. Davis’s medical sleuthing takes us behind the scenes of the exciting life of a cruise ship doctor and gives us insider knowledge of the fast paced, colourful and romantic world of officers, crew, and passengers.
